Narnia? On facebook? Who knew? So the latest in the crazy saga of my life is that my car was hit broadside by a kamikaze deer yesterday. It was probably being chased by something - it came flying out of the woods and ran smack into the side of my car. The driver's side door is crunched, the windshield has a lovely spiderweb in the bottom left corner, the front quarter panel is bent in enough to be scraping the tire, and there's a small dent in the back door. My side mirror is somewhere out on route 226. I didn't stop - I was about 5 miles from my house, and I was afraid that if I stopped, I might not get going again, so I just continued on home. They towed the car today and I got a rental. Of course my oh-so-helpful almost-ex never added rental car coverage to my insurance like I asked, so I have to pay for the rental myself. I also have a $500 deductible on my insurance, which I don't have. I'm having to take so much time off work for my back that it's definitely affecting my paychecks, and I still have a bunch of bills for July that haven't been paid. I talked to my pastor today and sent out an SOS . . . I hate asking unless I really need help, but I think I'm at that point. I'm not worried - I know without a shadow of a doubt that God has this all under control. It will all work out somehow. If His plan involves raining $100 bills from the sky, I wouldn't mind.

I think it depends on the park. I've never brought in a whole meal or a cooler, but we always bring drinks and crackers and snacky stuff in our backpacks. We went to a water park once with a homeschool group, had preordered lunch with them, brought drinks and snacks, and didn't spend a dime on food in the park. Each kid had their own small backpack with towel, drinks, and snacks.

Narnia...so sorry about your dh's loss of job. I sent you a pm. Cindy...deer I hope that the car issues are resolved quickly. Perhaps someone at your church will be wanting to give away a car. We had a car that was totaled by a deer. Glad that you weren't hurt!!!

Cindy, I'm sorry about the deer. I don't know if this will make a difference with your insurance, but when a friend had a deer run into her car she didn't have to pay a deductible. Somehow the insurance company made a distinction between someone hitting a deer and a deer running into the vehicle. In the latter case it went under comprehensive coverage and there was no deductible. Not sure if different insurance companies handle it differently, but I thought I'd mention it just in case.

Cindy, I thought deer accidents were covered under comprehensive, too! You should check and see if the place that is fixing it has a free loaner for you to drive. Ds is going to talk to the pastor to see if they can carry in drinks and snacks. He is going with a group.

You must live near me because I'm close to those places too. I know each place has different policies but I was going on the website of the place Judii linked to.

I think from what I read in earlier posts, I am about an hour from you. I was agreeing with you and was just backing up your point that all parks are different - and that if they post it on the website, they are pretty strict about it. I hate that Hershey Park has that rule, because the park is sooooo far from the parking lot. It was good to check that out for Judi, because a lot of people don't realize it. I would also check how far away parking is, because sometimes if you are only one person, it is worth it to buy the food, then have to walk back to the park. One thing I like about Hershey Park is that if you buy the souvenior cup, they refill it for .99 cents, and they refill past years souvenior cups for $1.59.

Last year they took 30 to 40 teens with them on a church bus. The cost is something like $37 per teen but the pastor gives them $10 back for supper on the way home. The park is about 230 miles from us.

My back still hurts but not as bad as last night. I just figured out why the school district down the road started a virtual academy. They are enrolling kids from 4 counties around here! OK, I have to admit that I would enroll ds EXCEPT for thev fact that ya need to log into their program EVERY week day that school is in session. To me, that's not homeschooling!

For some people, it's best of both worlds.

What is ds2 doing this year His? I know it was difficult, but I hope he learned a valuable lesson as well that things are not always greener on the other side of the grass.

Ds2 will be in public school again. It seems to be working for him. He wants to go into computer programming and is taking some classes in that direction. It's just the stupid stuff like English, health, PE and the like that he's not too motivated to do! Ds1 will be taking all college classes this year. He thought about public school then quickly decided he'd rather not! Stupid stuff--he'd have to take PE. Uh, he did a 3-week 1700mile bicycle tour this summer. He's competed in two Sprint triathlons, with two more Sprints and a Half Ironman planned. He also wants to do another stand alone half marathon. NONE of this would count as PE credit! Plus, he'd rather earn college credit rather than high school credit. I do think he liked the fact that his classmates were there to LEARN, and all the high school "games" were gone. Ds3 will be in public school for the first time. Ds4 will be my only hser!

Judy, That sounds like it would be a good situation for your son.

Could someone please stop the world? I want to get off. So there's my back. And my car. And the fact that I have been needing to take time off work because of my back, which is leaving my paychecks a tad bit short of paying all the bills that need to be paid. Today I took Patrick to a sports med doc. He has been having some pain in his right leg that's been increasing over the past couple of months, to the point that he can no longer train for tae kwon do. He is limping most of the time now. She did an impressively thorough exam and determined that the problem is . . . his back. She thinks he has a ruptured disc, although we don't yet have an MRI to confirm that. Of course he has no insurance. I can cover some basic bills, but there's no way I can pay for surgery, which in her opinion is likely to be necessary. Apparently the statistics are flip flopped in younger people - a 40 year old with a ruptured disc has a 90% chance of getting better with PT, but a teen with a ruptured disc has an 85-90% chance of needing surgery. She did a couple of basic xrays to make sure he doesn't have a tumor (he doesn't), since ruptured discs are pretty uncommon in 21 year old males. She stopped there and recommended talking to my insurance company and seeing if there is any way to add him back onto my policy, since he's not working and I'm providing all of his support. She did not order an MRI yet, because without one she can't definitively diagnose a ruptured disc, and therefore he doesn't have a pre-existing condition. She told me to see what I could work out with the insurance company and then call her, and she will order the MRI and physical therapy. If the insurance company turns us down, he will probably start school asap. He's been talking about it anyway, but he was going to wait until I was better. If he's a full time student, my insurance will cover him until he's 22, which will give us time to get done whatever needs to be done. That will cause a short term delay, because he'll have to get grants or loans and then register for classes, but it will be cheaper than paying for back surgery. So . . . we need prayer for healing, and prayer that the insurance company will add him back on right away, and prayer that large sums of cash will fall out of the sky. While you're at it, pray that Patrick will handle being out of tae kwon do for the minimum of 6-8 weeks that the doc thinks necessary without sending either himself or me off the edge. I think he's already having withdrawal symptoms. Does anyone have any calgon?

Wow, Cindy. Yikes. Good idea about him going to school though. If you have a smallish community or state college near you, it shouldn't be too late to get in for the fall. I decided around Christmas time that I was going to school and everything was set by the middle of January when classes started. Praying for strength and fortitude you need to make it through these storms triumphant.
