Let July Chat begin ....

We survived a trip to Orlando. I can now say I've been there. Soooo glad we didn't go to Disney World. If I ever go it will NOT be in the summer.

It seemed like all I did was drink cold bottled water & then look for a restroom.

Those swimsuits that have the tag that say you will look 10 #s thinner. They lie !

Had 1/2 # of crab legs for 8$ & ate some excellent artichoke chicken. I love anything with artichokes !

Did take a ride in a helicopter.

I am glad you had a good time!

OK, here comes a RANT...most of you know that dh has been gone almost a year and right now he is a couple of thousand miles away.
So I was just wondering...does anyone know WHY it would be my fault if he bought a car and it doesn't run right? Well, his logic goes like this. He emailed me this: "I think I bought a lemon I cant keep walking every where. You should ive given the tag for the truck..... If you would only try to work things out"...

On the bright side of things:
Ds and I are off the last week of July. Ds1 took his vacaton for that week!!
There is a teen meeting every night that week. Then a trip to Michigan Adventures planned for whoever attends. Last year they went to Cedar Point.

OK we can't have firecrackers because they are illegal in Michigan...I am letting ds get some fountains and other things to shoot off.

zoe--I hear you. Next year I'm down to home schooling only one. I am looking forward to it. It's just gonna be weird having only one kid to track. I don't even know what lesson plan book to use. I've always needed four columns.

Zoebob, It's a new chapter to look forward to. I hope this doesn't grieve you too much.

TL has one year left of homeschooling, then she will start college. MM has three years left. Mr. Manly... I would put him in school now if I could afford to put him in a certain private school, but he'll be home until

  • a) He is ready for college.
  • b) I can afford to send him to the particular private school where no one sends their problem children.

It seems the private schools for junior high and above in our area are often where people send their children who are having trouble in public school or are in trouble generally. It would be a disaster to send Mr. Manly there. There is a very small private school that caters to homeschoolers and former homeschoolers. There are less than 100 students. It's really well run and a wonderful Christian environment. If I can afford it, he will probably go there for high school. I wouldn't mind if it were just the girls, but Mr. Manly wears me out and I am tired all the time. I would rather be tired making money and sending him to a school where they would all love him. He is an angel outside of home and everyone thinks he's perfect.

I went to DisneyWorld in June 2008. With all the humidity in Florida it felt just as hot as the 120* dry heat I grew up in. Aaaahhhh.

I wonder if Disney World is as hot as Tulsa in July? We went there to pick up someone at the airport when we lived in OK. It was too hot t6o go to the zoo!!

We had a pastor who would tell some parents that he was running a Christian school, not a reform school!

RANT This must be the week that either people blame me for their mistakes or else get mad because I don't help them after they made a huge one. Dd2 and the kids Dad have 3 kids. Well, last night they showed up at my apartment and in a couple of minutes time, the oldest one asked if I was giving them the key to my place. The reason was that their electricity got shut off. It's not like they haven't known for months that it might happen and it's not like the two of them don't make more in a week than I have in a month. I told Dd to send the company money every week, but she kept giving him the money and somehow he didn't send it in. Her reasoning was that the company wanted it all at once. I have never heard of an electric company that won't accept a partial payment.
Well, last night I told them NO, I wasn't leaving the key. It's not the fact that I am trying to be mean, it's time they figure stuff out for themselves. I am tired of bailing someone out if their kids are out of food, while Dad has pockets full of cash. (Don't get me wrong, if the kids are hungry, I'll take them to Mickey Ds feed them at my house.)
It's not even the point that they think I am so mean that I wouldn't let my grandkids come to my house to take showers. (They have a well and pump.) Its the point that the oldest one doesn't respect anyone or anyone's property. Ds doesn't want his stuff wrecked or sadly, stolen by gs. What little bit of stuff the kid has is taken care of properly. Besides that, I don't want my apartment trashed, my doors knocked off their hinges, holes punched in the walls, (oldest gs has done this to their house.) fleas in the carpet from their stupid dog, or my cats terrorized! Can ya blame me for not giving them the key?

Yes! Praise the Lord! Good for you, Judy! Stand firm. Do not move to the right or the left. You are doing the right thing.

Anybody have an opinion about that hs family in California that allowed their 16 yr dd sail in a small boat in the winter in the Indian Ocean & had to be rescued ?

I don't think I would let ds do it but then he has never been on any boat...
Girl Rescued
I think it just depends on the parents.
Would you let your 10 year old control a team of horses? We saw an Amish man do that and the boy did a very good job of it. Would you let your preteen sons drive tractors and load carrots at a carrot factory? The owner's sons used to do that on the weekends.
I guess it just depends on how or where you raise your kids. The link I found said the girl was raised on the ocean and her brother held the record she was trying to break for awhile.

Personally, I wouldn't but I'm not into sailing. Would you let you teen aged son ride 1,800 miles across the US with a group you had never met? I've let son1 do it. Twice.

deCycles arrived safely in LA yesterday. So glad it's over! I know that son1 had a great time and I know it was a great experience for him. But, I worry... Especially when they posted a kid holding a bike compter that showed max speed of 53.1mph. Uh, that was ds1. THEN, a couple days later int he journal it was posted that ds1 had hit 62.9mph. LOTS of minor wrecks, as are prone to happen in a group of 70 or so. Worst accident ever though--one girl was knocked out and spent two days in ICU, then was held a couple extra days, most likely because she had to fly home. Most of the team will arrive home later this morning. Ds1 is on the road crew and they will arrive either late Wednesday or early THurday. Celebration in Thursday evening--can't ask for a better birthday present for mom! OH!!! On one of the first few days, ds1 was awarded a Hot Rock. It's an award for going out of your way to help another rider. Also, he's been nominated for veteran of the year. Just being nominated is an honor! We'll find out at the celebration...

Crazy week . . . just popping in to say hi. I'll update you all when I have time, but I wanted to let everyone know that Melissa is having her ablation tomorrow morning, so prayers are appreciated.

Melissa's procedure went textbook perfect . . . the doc was able to easily reproduce the SVT and zap the spot. She'll be coming home later today. Thanks for praying.

That was fast! I wasn't even done praying.

Ahhhhh! the heat is really getting to me. I had spent yesterday morning in the ER because there is blood in my urine. They weren't positive if it was a bladder infection or a kidney stone so they sent me home with a prescription and told me to drink lots of water. It is hard to drink enough water to treat kidney stones when it is this hot. I don't think that I will go to dance tonight. The girls have their first tap dance class tonight. They are so excited.

Cindy--that was quick! Like Ellie-Mae, I wasn't done praying yet!

Ellie-Mae--DRINK!!!!!!!!! If you don't like water, find something you do like. I like Crystal Lite. I don't even mix it as strong as you are supposed to. Just enough to give it a touch of flavor. Dh prefers a touch of lemon. Whatever it takes--drink!!!

Water is good. Cranberry juice is also good for kidney/urine problems from my understanding. Crystal Light is good stuff too. That's great your girls are so excited about their dance class. It has been hot here as well.

I thought we had "conquered" this bridge, but DH has mentioned that he has some reservations about HSing DS since I am expecting. *sigh*

Ds1 called this morning!!! The 3-week bicycle tour ended on Sunday. Most of the team flew back but ds1 is on the road crew. He called because his debit card stopped working. Y'all know where this is going... Dh called and ds1's card stopped working because he's out of money! There's no way to reload it so he's going to have to borrow money from one of the adult leaders. They get in tomorrow and the celebration is Thursday. I can't wait to see ds1. I am so gonna throttle him!

Wooweee....July...

So far this month...finished up vacation, homegroup right after we got back, good friend's wedding, 4th of July, Brian's birthday yesterday, and just last night, I finally finished the vacation laundry. Go, me. LOL

Later this month...the 20th is the 2 year anniversary of Brian's accident. He has preop that day, for his 8th surgery, this one on his arm. Depositions for the court case are the 26th, surgery is the 27th.

Right now...we're getting new windows put in. Brian found 11 brand new windows the same size as ours at a garage sale. The landlord bought them and is paying one of our pastors, who is also a contractor, to put them up. So far, the livingroom is done. It's amazing having windows that open and close easily and not having to worry about the glass breaking or lead paint being put into the air any time the window is moved.

Zoebob...you done good. I'm sorry your hs journey is ending, but I know God has great blessings ahead for you and the kids. Hang in there...

Prayed for Melissa's thing. Glad it went well.

Lisa, if water is too hard to drink, try other things. I had that problem when I was pregnant...water made me gag. I drank Gatorade. You could probably water down Gatorade and it'll still help you to drink more.

The sailor girl...she grew up boating on the ocean. At 16, she could be driving a car also. So...yeah, I would if I was in her parents' shoes.

Would you let a 10 year old do the brakes on your car, and then drive it afterward? I have. I have no doubt that by the time he is 16, he'll be able to do more complicated repairs. The older he gets, the more he will do, and likely with less supervision from Dad. Right now, Brian sits and watches the whole thing.

Donna--I forgot that Brian and ds4 shared a birthday! "Ironic" that Brian just happened to find windows the right size for your house...

It's supposed to be stupid hot again today. I'll do a bit of yard work early, then lay low the rest of the day.

It's hot here, too. There are lots of clouds building so maybe it will cool off. I was moving furniture around to try to figure out where to put the couch and loveseat we just got. Ds came up with an idea- he took the loveseat and put it in his bedroom. Anyhow, it got too hot so we are taking a break until it rains...Then I'm stealing the loveseat back....
I need to toss a couple of things but the " packrat" always can find a way to keep them...like the sewing machine cabinet that doesn't have a sewing machine...well now it's a corner table for his room for the fan so he can sit on the loveseat and blow cold air on his head while he plays the DS.. I can't wait until he goes away to college..I am going to rent a UHaul, load up his room, and the hundred thousand or so books he has stashed in boxes over the years (the motor home is literally full of boxes, mostly his stuff!!) and drop all of it off at his dorm!!

Donna, praying that Brian wiil get done with all of the surgeries soon!! That is good that your ds can work on things.

BTW, do ya thinkit's legal to ground a kid from reading???/

This has been a really busy week . . .

A mutual friend of mine and Melissa's flew in from WA last Wednesday (she lives near Bellingham, Cynthia). We have been be-bopping around doing fun stuff and alternately sleeping at my house or Melissa's. Had a few other friends come up for Fourth of July weekend - we had a cookout at Melissa's on Saturday, then spent Sunday picnicking and canoeing at a lake, and then had more friends over at Melissa's on Monday. Tuesday I took our friend to Niagara Falls - it was on her "bucket list" and I only live a couple of hours from the Buffalo-Ontario border. It's always fun for me to take someone who's never seen it before - I grew up in western NY and we used to hang out at the Falls on a regular basis, and while I wouldn't say it's boring, I know it like the back of my hand. I love seeing it through fresh eyes. Yesterday we hung out at Presque Isle, and today we met another friend for breakfast, and then shopped and had dinner out with Melissa and her daughter. Our friend flies out tomorrow at some awful hour that should only be on a clock once - 6:45am or something like that. All I know is that I need to be up at 4:30, which means I won't get much sleep tonight. Oh well, I can always come back and take a nap.

Speaking of sleep, I'm sure our friend is more than ready to go home and sleep in her own bed. She is a very light sleeper and she . . . hears . . . everything. Seriously, someone walking around in the living room will wake her up. Add in the fact that she is a morning person and we're not, and I don't think the poor girl has slept through one night since she's been here. I feel bad, but it is very difficult to make people who normally go to bed at 2am to suddenly go to bed at 11pm, and it's very difficult to explain to a rooster who normally crows at 4:30am that you'd appreciate it if he'd wait till 8. I think next time she visits, she'll probably choose to stay in a hotel.

Oh, and Ashley's old horse fell yesterday morning and opened up a huge flap of skin on his chest - I put 8 stitches in it by the time it was all said and done. He was a trooper, though, and didn't move and inch as long as she kept feeding him cookies.
