GUESS WHAT I ORDERED TODAY?

Biking has turned out to be a great lower body workout, and I'm optimistic that will be a great upper body workout! (grin)

Down almost 10 pounds from when all my stress / turmoil began. Funny how he lost 20 almost immediately. At least I'm doing it the right way.

I am happy that you lost 10 pounds but sorry to hear it was the result of stress and turmoils in your life.

God is able to hear and bear all of your burdens and stuff that causes you stress and turmoil! Praying for you to be strong as you lean on His strong arms. God does care and love you!

Well, this last week was a colossal disappointment for me in the weigh-loss arena. I ate "clean." I biked 58 miles in 100+ temps. Veggies were eaten in abundance. And what did the scale show? .4 for the week. Yep ... about 6 ounces. Can I say how monumentally annoyed I was at the scale this morning? I wish my nifty new pink punching bag was ALREADY here, because I most assuredly would've been whacking the heck out of it all morning.

grumble grumble grumble ... whine whine whine .... rant rant rant ... pout pout pout.

That being said, I nevertheless got my butt back on my bike and biked 10 miles this morning. And lunch included ... once again... broccoli. (sigh) And my hope/plan tonight is to get some more biking in around 10pm or so, once it cools off. In the meantime, I just hope that ranting burns calories, ya know?

I had decided I wasn't going to the gym tonight because I have so much to do with getting ready for my trip and all, but, after talking with a girlfriend, she reminded me that I needed to fall in love with myself. I said that I was on the journey, but that I was a long way from it. So, because of that comment, I drove back to the gym and had a very good workout. So, yay me!

Thank you Bettymack. Yes, the cause of it is not a good thing, but, it is what has gotten me going. I was just sitting still before this event. Now I have no choice but to put one foot in front of the other and move ahead with my life.

That's a cute picture, Molly!

Well, according to the scale in the drs office, I lost two lbs. since my last visit. This was a major surprise to me, because I wore jeans this time instead of shorts. Usually when I wear jeans, I gain weight, not lose it. I'll take what I can get, though!

Ive lost a total of 10 pounds since July 4th! So not even a full month and I am down a whole 10 pounds. I started workind out and watching what I ate on July 4th. Some people start January 1st, but nah...I started on Independence Day :)

I really cannot afford a gym membership but I have some free weights that I use. I also have a machine that I never ever used when it was new...lol. Its called a Power Rider...its super old and I had to put oil on it to stop it from squeaking. But it works. Basically you get on it, and you use your upper body and lower body as well. So that is what I have been doing.

Here is a picture of it. You can get it for like $10 now. Sorry for the long ink, its the only one I can find online.(edited by mod to hide long link)

I cut down on the soda intake. I also increased my water intake, and stopped eating out. I started eating smaller meals more frequently and that is it! Its working..praise God! I have not lost weight in like 5 years, only gained and gained. Im doing what I know to do and what is common knowledge, but did not do til now. I was suprised to see my progress. My metabolism is slow from some meds I had to take a while back. But it can do done and I am doing it :) I am so glad.

Congrats Elyron! Keep it up!

My dad has a power glider - I used to play on it when I was little.

MMP and I are planning on running every night we're on vacation and after we get back we plan on getting my bike fixed.

I've been trying not to eat out or get fast food but working 80 hours these last few weeks has made the grab and go stuff necessarily. I did buy some tv dinners which is better but the sodium is so ridiculously high.

I'm hoping once school resumes that my schedule will become a bit more regular and exercising will be easier to carve into the schedule.

Does anyone know how to start doing squats? I know lifting weights is what really gets my metabolism going and I know combining weights with squats can increase bum size but don't quite know how to get started!

Reebz,

Thanks and you keep going too!

Yeah I get TV dinners too sometimes since I really do not cook a lot (I need to change this because that is partly the reason I am overweight).

Here is how I do squats at home. Just click on the link and scroll down a bit. It shows you a little mini animation and how to do it right without getting injured.

Elyon = good job! 10pounds loss is a great start and showing progress!
and thanks for directing us to a web site for great exercises!

reba = Some TV dinners have not a much sodium as others.
Good thinking... when we are a student we seem to have a
better handle on our schedules! Go for it!

Hi all, been about a week since I reported in. I haven't weighed myself as I am afraid of what the scale will tell me. But as with others I have stopped going out to eat, and opted to cook in. It's cheaper that way too. I have definitely increased my water intake, but still not where I need to be on the veggie scale. Though I did just eat a salad for a late dinner. I know, I shouldnt' be eating at this time of the night, but I was starving. Oh and I ate a doughnut at work today, yeah I know another bad thing. I am a cheater, I admit it. But I know that I need to make these changes along with others. Thank you for kicking me in the rear assembly and keeping me mindful of what God wants me to put into my body, not just what Stacey wants to eat.

Salads (and lean protein) make great late dinners or late snacks!

The occasional donut won't ruin your diet ... it's daily donuts that are the problem. If donuts are something you will be indulging in from time to time, you may want to do some online research and see how the various types of donuts compare, calorie-wise. Some may be better/worse than others .... and at least then you'd be making an informed choice.

I have a dieting friend who only weighs once a month, on the first. She doesn't even have a scale at her house ... so she goes to a neighbor's house to weigh. There's certainly no requirement for daily (or even weekly) weigh-ins ... you're the best judge of how you've been feeling/doing/eating.

Now ... tomorrow .... go buy more veggies! (grin)

So, I was a man, but by the grace of God I shall shortly transform into a dictionary?

Update: I'm down another 5 pounds or so, since the last time I weighed, so I've lost 12 or 14 since I started changing my eating habits.

(Which now include good food choices whenever I'm hungry... which is frequently. Getting too hungry makes me too impulsive to make good choices. I have to eat when the eating's good.)

Oh those were great, thanks Molly. I can't wait to go from being 2 bloodhounds, all the way down to just between the dictionary and the human man. Where on earth did you find out this information anyways?

Today was another day of not really eating anything until I got home from work. I did have an apple at work, but worked through lunch yet again. Then I made dump for dinner. Noodles, green beans, tuna, smart balance margarine, garlic, oregano and sprinkled with Parmesan. I had 2 bowls of that and feel okay. Even though I know I am still way behind on the veggies for the day. Man, I need to seriously revamp my work schedule so I can eat something decent while I am there...lol.

Right now, I'm around two bloodhounds resting on a bale of hay.

Well, it's time for me to quit eating out and buying frozen dinners so much. I've been afraid to try out the gas stove at our new home, but this other stuff is making me feel miserable and not helping my waistline any. I have good foods, including fresh veggies & fruit, frozen veggies, no bread, 1% milk, lean meats and all. It's time to start cooking healthy meals again!

Tomorrow is weigh in day, so that will be the new start day for me.

Melissa ... GOOD FOR YOU! So your weigh-in days will be on Sundays? Cool ~ that should be easy to remember! Let us know how you're doing! (My weigh-in days are Mondays!)

There are very few frozen dinners out there that are worth their cost, nutrition-wise. They all seem to be loaded with sodium and chemical preservatives, and the portion sizes aren't exactly generous. I've really discovered that I'd rather buy, cook and eat "real food" ... lean proteins, heart-healthy whole grains, and lots and lots of veggies.

bolt = Congrats! weight loss of 12-14 pounds and for making good food choices!

New-Horizons = Thanks for the video for exercises in which we can see how it is done, and hopefully and I and others can do them properly too!

ColoradoLady38 = You are to be congratulated on good thinking
by eating a salad, eating a donut does ruin your
diet as Molly as correct stated.
I like your focus on God Who is our Helper to
stay healthy. He has made a lot of good healthy
food which are beautiful and delicious!
Yes, get some yummy veggies! Stacey!

Molly = You sure have some great posting! But why would you
add a 400 pound Welsh pony... I know to make us all
feel good!

Melissa = You are doing great! Good choices of food too!

I have been roped into a ladies study with the book, Spiritual Secrets to Weight Loss by Kara Davis

Have any of you read this book? Your thoughts are welcomed!

Totally off-topic ... (but I wanted to share!)

Our house-full of rescued kitty cats (and our two covered patios-turned-Catios) have made the "big time" and have been featured online in a blog. (Yes, I'm a proud kitty mom and home decorator!)

Well, I cooked my first meal on the stove today. Boided hot dogs, with microwave boiled veggies, applesauce and milk. After supper though, I didn't do so well though, mini candy bars that a relative left here for her and I to snack on, ice cream at a rehab facility and cookies.

Me think you have done fine! You ate your veggies! Good for you! What a way to go! Just like Molly said it is okay to have such things as mini candy bars and ice cream, but not to have them daily!

Alright guys - I weighed myself and am still down 3.5 lbs (not 4 like initially but I think that's because it's the end of the day that I weighed today vs. start of the day the other week).

It's my goal to not gain ANY weight while on vacation.

Hold me to it alright?

Also any tips on how to avoid temptation while in paradise?

MODERATION!

If you are not eating a scrumptious meal (ie fast food), go easy on the calories and get a salad or smaller portions. If you're eating a scrumptious meal, enjoy it because you're behaving for the other meals!

Drink a lot of water.

If you're going to eat calories, make sure they're worth it!

True story on my vacation-- the first few days I ate junk food (and enjoyed every moment, I might add). However, I was so unused to eating junk food that I started craving healthy food, and did a lot better from then on out.

I have to share what happened last night when I was sitting here posting and eating those candy bars. I went to get another handful and God reminded me of the Bible verse about rebellion being like the sin of witchcraft and obedience is better than sacrifice. I put the candy away then went back to posting. The cravings were still strong, so I went to eat some cheese, then some sugared soda, but I had the same verse play in my mind again. I started to reach for the candy bars again, but finally withdrew my hand, tired of the constant reminder that I couldn't eat everything that I wanted.

Then today, I had some ice cream and popcorn at the place where my relative was at today. I felt the same verse in my mind, but went again and ate both anyway, even though I felt condemned for doing so. Now I'm home and repenting and asking God to help me overcome these intense cravings for sugar. Other than the 4 chocolate chip cookies and the ice cream that I had today, I haven't eaten any sugary treat. I intend to keep it that way.

Has anyone of you had a Bible verse play in your mind when tempted or actually eating something that isn't good for you? I feel like I'm disobeying God and ruining His temple when I do eat sugar.

I lost only 5.6 pounds in July, which is pretty gosh-darned frustrating since I didn't cheat at all, I stayed on track and ate "clean" all month, plus I biked 328 sweltering miles in 100+ temperatures.... AUGH!!! It's been 8 solid months (35 straight weeks) of dieting and I have logged a loss every single week, but I am still a bit disappointed in losing only 5.6 pounds this month.

Oh well ... what can ya do? Here's the weekly weight-loss breakdown:

July Week 1 ~ lost 1.2

July Week 2 ~ lost 1.4

July Week 3 ~ lost 0.4

July Week 4 ~ lost 2.0
