At my heaviest I weighed 215.
I am currently at 176 (down from 180 a week or so ago).
I'm 5'7" with an apple shape.

OK, I will share my stats, as well.

AGE: 45 years old
HEIGHT: 5'9"
FRAME: Large (and I wear a size 12 shoe!)
SHAPE: Pear-shaped
NOTE: Type 2 diabetic, Hypothyroidism, Severe Asthma
STARTING WEIGHT: 375 pounds as of December 1, 20009
CURRENT WEIGHT: 264.6 pounds (Down 110.6 pounds ... so far)
GOALS: I really want to be less than 250 pounds, specifically 236 pounds or less ~ because that puts me in a lower BMI category

I am now off insulin!
My cholesterol dropped 40 points!
I've biked more than 2,000 miles so far this year!
I've dropped more than 4 sizes in clothing!
I've dropped 2 BMI categories (15 BMI points!)
My blood pressure is nearly normal!

I just signed up with a trainer at the gym - am going to be doing a lot. I've done it before and I know what to do, but I need the accountability. This is going to be a long, but fun journey.

I'll go ahead and post some numbers, so you don't feel alone colorado lady.

At my heaviest I weighed 215.

At my lightest (since 7th grade that is haha) I weighed 158.

I am currently at 176 (down from 180 a week or so ago).

I'm 5'7" and am cursed with the apple shape.

I love every single part of my body EXCEPT my tummy...

I am so sorry, I didn't mean to put you guys on the spot to post your numbers. But I thank you for doing so. I think that for me, it makes it more real, kind of like I can't turn back now. I weighed myself at work today, and the scale said 207.2. So I wasn't that far off from what I guessed last evening of 205. Now that being said, I will not tell you how my day went, as they had doughnuts at work, and I was forced to eat 2 of the things. Yeah I know not my finest hour. But tomorrow is another day. I am thinking that I want to follow the food guide pyramid, as I have always thought it was very sensible. I do drink a lot of water, I do a lot of sweating at my job as a CNA. When we give a shower it gets so hot as soon as we come out of the showers, we feel like passing out. The bright red face is a nice added touch..lol. I think that I drink more than the 64 oz on a normal day. So I use that number as a general guideline. Since I am not the typical 150 lbs, it stands to reason that I would need more. Don't worry, I know about proper electrolyte balances and things of that nature, so I promise not to drown myself with the water. lol. So since tomorrow is a new day, that's going to be my for sure, for sure start day. Is it normal to be a little bit scared? When I was going through my divorce when I lost down to the 179, it was easy. I lost it without thinking about. Probably because I was so down and depressed, I didn't feel like eating much.

I made a list of things that I know I need to do to make this stick. So bear with me, or pass right along to the next post. Either way it's important to me that I do this.

*Continue drinking my water.
*Eat slowly, and stop when I start to feel full.
*Instead of eating when I am stressed out, I need to take a little walk around the building.
*Use the smaller plate to eat my meals off of. Less really is more. (Great idea)
*Instead of drinking the juice, eat the fruit. I need the fiber, plus it will fill me up better, it will count as one of my fruit servings for the day in a better way.
*Buy the scale..lol.
*Start logging what I am eating.
*Get on a more regular exercise regimen.
*Eat more veggies...thanks MM

That's what I came up with for now. What do you guys think? I really appreciate your support in this, and I hope you all know that you can depend on me as well. God speed.

I had chinese for dinner and am now drinking sweet tea.

I do believe sweet tea is my down fall. It's so many empty calories...but it brings such joy to my tastebuds and my life!

I'm hoping to get my bike fixed this weekend so that I can get back to biking as much as I started to a few weeks ago.

What do you sweeten your sweet tea WITH? (And how much do you use?)

Now that McDonalds has their large drinks on sale for a dollar, I get their unsweetened iced tea a lot and sweeten it with splenda. They have some of the best iced tea I have ever tasted. I have tried making it at home and it just doesn't come out the same.

I buy their sweet tea from time to time - it is delicious. I tried replicating it at home per the internets and just couldn't get it to taste right.

I do buy it sometimes from the grocery store - and it's decent.

I have artificial sweetener at home and have thought about tinkering around again but I had some of MCD's unsweetened tea and it was just awful! Maybe it's just here that it's bad? IDK.

McDonald's Large Sweet Tea = 230 calories / 59 grams of sugar .... that would be TWICE the sugar in a Snickers Bar and THREE TIMES the sugar in a Twinkie (just by way of comparison)

FYI: The FDA has established recommended daily limits for added sugar based on total calorie intake:

1,600 calories - Limit sugar to 6 teaspoons per day or 22 grams per day
2,200 calories - Limit sugar to 12 teaspoons per day or 44 grams per day

I've always figured the sugar was better than the aspartame in diet sodas.

I'm beginning to think it's not possible to enjoy life and remain fit.

I'm wondering if perhaps I could adjust the recipe and wean myself down to something with less sugar?

As I take sugar away my taste buds would naturally enhance flavors, correct? I've heard about this but am not for positive.

The nice thing about tea is that it can be purchased in flavored tea bags ~ I've found some scrumptuous fruit ones. Then I add a small amount of artificial sweetener (because I can't have sugar), and sometimes a bit of real fruit/real fruit juice. It really can be quite tasty. (Raspberries are great squooshed up and added to tea, by the way!)

Even if you made your own tea and added your own real sugar, my guess is that you could enjoy it without adding 18 teaspoons of sugar to one large glass.

True.

Most recipes I'm finding online are suggesting 1 cup per 1/2-1 gallonish - is that still way too much?

I am with you both on the sweet tea issue. I am originally from Georgia, and their tea is like syrup. So I cut my sugar down to 1 c/gal. Though as Reba said, I never can get my tea to taste like it does in the restaurants. Namely McD's, Cracker Barrel and Chic Fil A. I wonder if I am not adding enough tea bags to the mix. For 1 gallon I last used 12 in the coffee pot. Then I kept reusing the tea bags until the gallon was full. It still didn't taste as good. I don't get it. I may just go for the gusto, and add 15 next. lol.

Something you both might like to consider is Stevia. http://www.stevia.com/Stevia_Article.aspx?Id=2269. I have used it before, and it's not bad.

Amazing!!! I'm so glad I only order the unsweetened.

PHOTO ALBUM FROM YESTERDAY'S TRIP TO THE COAST!

I went to Carmel and Monterey for a one-day trip yesterday with one of my girlfriends! I ate my regular healthy breakfast in the car, and then an apple for a mid-morning snack. Lunch in Carmel was wonderful: fresh crab cakes and then grilled Monterey Sand Dabs. We spent the afternoon poking around in stores and exploring the Carmel Mission, before heading over to Fisherman's Wharf to see the sea lions and have dinner. Dinner, by the way, was roasted garlic and then a calamari steak ... yum yum yum! (I had the shark there last time, so I wanted to try something different!) I also tasted some of my friend's scallops and clam chowder ~ it was a happy seafood day! And I loved the weather (which was 30-40 degrees cooler than here.)

The scale wasn't as happy with my trip as I was, though ... hee hee hee. Anyway, I'm up 1.2 pounds, but I did eat more sodium than usual and my "monthly visitor" arrived yesterday, so I am confident this is just temporary. Anyway ... back to "normal" life today!

The endocrinologist just HALVED my Metformin dosage, down from 1000mg twice a day to 500mg twice a day. I've been doing such a good job with weight loss, and controlling my diabetes with diet and exercise that my blood sugar "lows" were the result of all my hard work (plus a too-high dose of Metformin as a result.)

Thanks for sharing your vacation pics! Those were very beautiful pics!
By the way, what do Monterey sand dabs taste like? I am
assuming they are some kind of fish.

They are a light, flaky white fish ... similar to sole or halibut

Those are some really beatiful pics. I love those orange ones, are they Alstromeria? Am I eating my veggies, that's a trick question..lol. For the last few days, I haven't eaten much until I have gotten home from work. So that answer would be no. It has been our survey at work, so we haven't even been able to take our lunch breaks, even though we have been clocked out, nor drink water. So I am not feeling too awesome. So I ate the first time when I got home from work all 3 days. It's kind of stunk alot too, as I have gotten some massive headaches because of it. So now that survey week is over. I am praying to get this thing started the right way.

Down almost 10 pounds from when all my stress / turmoil began. Funny how he lost 20 almost immediately. At least I'm doing it the right way.
