I am washing different dishes these days.

Measuring cups, specifically. I use the one cup (dry) measuring cup twice a day for cereal (Fiber One and Puffed Kamut). And I use the one cup (wet) measuring cup twice a day for my unsweetened vanilla Almond Breeze. And every morning I use the one-half cup (dry) measuring cup for my low fat cottage cheese. At lunchtime, I get out the tablespoon to measure out my eggplant hummus. And when it comes to things like weighing out six ounces of yukon gold potatoes or otherwise seeing how much asparagus I've got -- there's my nifty scale.

And can I say that measuring out a cup of sliced radishes or cherry tomatoes is a bit tricky because those little suckers tend to not want to fit neatly in the cup? Since they are veggies, I've decided it's ok to have a heaping cup of radishes ... otherwise I've found myself chasing rolling red veggies across the countertop ....

I didn't used to do this measuring and counting and weighing.... and one of my many lifestyle changes is actually USING my measuring spoons and cups and paying closer attention to serving sizes. More calorie counting = more dishes .... it must be some sort of conspiracy, huh? (smile)

And I am now a "bean counter!" OK, I'm not usually counting out beans ... but I do count out my reduced fat Cheez-Its crackers and my original Fritos. By the way, when you've got a broken chip, do you rummage around in the bag for it's missing half so you don't get gypped out of a 1/2 chip, or do you pretend it is whole? (I must admit that last night I just ATE the orphaned half chip!)

I think some people have great spatial awareness and can eyeball things with eery accuracy when it comes to their weight and volume. I'm not one of them. For me, I need to be measuring and weighing and counting and logging and planning ... because small things add up to big things ... and it all counts.

I count everything ... because everything counts. Even me!

Molly, we can just be measuring fools together! I have absolutely no spatial relations, none. I am so loving FitDay, it puts everything into black and white for me. I feel incredible. I ran 4 miles today. Normally, it would have been 3 but I felt so good I thought, what the heck and went for it. Tonight for dinner I am having Morningstar Southwest veggie cakes, broccoli, a baked sweet potato, and salad with romaine, tomato, rd pepper, and a serving of honey mustard. Good stuff.

I cannot decide today if my stomach feels hungry or if it feels sick. Weird place to be...

I did okay earlier, then really went wild, eating all of those leftover Christmas cookies and fudge!

Tomorrow's another day. That's all I can say.

Yes. Are the cookies all gone now?

I was not hungry at all earlier today and had to force myself to eat supper. I've been hungry ever since then.

When you've been sick and your body has been fighting a bug (virus or infection or bacteria) it's used up extra resources .... so your hunger is your body wanting to refuel. It's OK to be hungry after a few days of not feeling well -- just make some healthy choices to help speed your healing and recovery.

I wonder which was my healthiest of choices - the fettucine alfredo, the white corn tortilla chips or the chocolate.

The fettucini sounds like classic comfort food ... there's nothing wrong with corn tortilla chips ... was the chocolate dark chocolate?

I always end up with a dishwasher full of measuring cups, spoons, and bowls by the end of the day :) I measure everything that goes in my mouth unless it comes premeasured.

Hubby went with me to work out last night and decided to do some weight training while we were there. He is sure feeling that this morning lol. He works on heavy equipment for a living and thought he got all the weight-bearing exercise he needed (although that is probably true healthwise). I love when he learns things the hard way .

I'm down another pound. I basically maintained my weight throughout the holidays, plus or minus a pound, which has to be some kind of Olympian feat for me. Now I'm back to the serious work of getting rid of these unwanted extra pounds and my pre-diabetes.

I made WOF's black bean enchilada bake last night, adding in some very lean ground turkey and using reduced fat cheese and nonfat yogurt. It got rave reviews all around and I managed to eat only one portion (which according to Sparkpeople has only 245 calories). It was wonderful, and I'm having it again for lunch minus the temptation to eat more than one serving, since that's all that I have on hand .

My new love is greek style yogurt. No more yoplait for me. I got Vanilla Greek style yogurt from Trader Joe's. I mixed half a cup with a tbsp of semi sweet chocolate chips for a treat last night. It was yummy in my tummy. My new thing with measuring and fitday has made me even more aware of nutrition. I am working more at getting all my nutrtion from food which means almost every bite must be nutrient rich. My decent diet has gotten so much better. I feel better than ever.

Mmmm. I love me some greek style yogurt. It's pretty easy to make too, which is why I never make any

We are getting ready to book a cruise for next December and it has me plotting what I'll need to do to get back in shape after I pop. We are really looking forward to going, especially since we are leaving the babies with my parents

I stuck to my plan again yesterday! Yeah!

I agree about the serving sizes. I did not realize how much I was really eating. I really think I had to be eating like 4000 calories a day, as I was eating what I wanted when I wanted and drinking a lot of soda. I am suprised I am not bigger. '

I am a daily weigher, and I am having good results this week. Can't wait for the official weigh in on Sat.

I am also treating myself to a pedicure when I complete 3 weeks on this diet. I am on week 2. :)

Choosing smaller dishes and utensils is also a good way to help with portion control.

I bought some of the Corelle bowls that are 6 oz., 18 oz. and some small 7 inch salad plates to help me relearn what was appropriate portion sizes. I took a couple pics to demonstrate how easy it is to eat way more than what you think you are eating when I half way attempted to blog my way to losing weight. (Blogging takes up too much time for me.)

Yup, I eat mostly off of a plastic plate since it's right between the size of a dinner plate and a salad plate. It's just perfect. I used to measure everything but I'm pretty good at eyeballing things now. I do still measure carbs and I will count crackers or chips.

Anyone join Weight Watchers? I was thinking about doing this. I strated my weight loss journey on Nov 9, 2009 and am down 7 lbs. I'm watching my carbs and counting calories, but it's so hard to break bad habits. I did great during Thanksgiving, but when Chritsmas came I gave in, which I knew I was going to do and ate way too much sugar. After being off the bad carbs I was shoked at how many had eaten in the past. Measuring is so godd and I think I might write down what I eat just to see how is effects me. Love the thread.

I need to get back on the small portion and no junk food train. I was out of town for New Years and then since I have been back it has been hard to get out of vacation mode. I have been wanting to drop a few pounds before my cruise, especially since I was having a problem fitting in the formal dress I bought (bought it on eBay so no opportunity to try it on). I am happy to be below 155 again, but I would be to be below 150 even more... today I weighed in at 152.2.

Oh yah, my cruise is in 25 days! :D

Reach, me an you both on the insane calorie thing. Since I have started measuring, I am astounded how much I had been eating. I didn't understand because I have always had a high metabolism and I am nursing. Now I understand, if it had been for those two things I would have been gaining all this time.

I measure certain things but try not to get all obsessive about it.

I have thought about it but if I joined I would just do the online. I know weight watchers people are supposed to be all supportive and stuff but some people get upset when people who only have a "little to lose" join. I am pretty sure that I just need to cut the simple carbs and up the fiber and I'll eventually get there. I've got one of the points calculators anyway - the 18 to 21 points is not a lot of food.

I know I keep talking about fitday.com but it is just neat. It shows you all your nutrition, carbs, protein, sodium, etc. It has really helped me make much better food decisions. Later in the day I can see that I have eating more carbs than I need and have a protein snack. I just feel incredible from the way I have been eating, I want to share it with everyone.

i like fitday but they don't have a mobile site. When I go back to work I am going to have look up food on my phone or my Itouch. Sparkpeople works well though and I have a program called Lose It on my Itouch that works pretty good.

(pen and paper don't work too well for me)

I am home all day so I don't need the mobile option. I joined Sparks people but it had too much to go through in the limited time I had. All of sudden it said, this your leg workout day and here is your exercises. But I never programmed that and have my own routine. It looks good but I need more time to look at it.
